The Shading parameter is enabled for Adaptive palettes and determines which algorithm HVS ColorGIF uses in analyzing the color structure of the image. Images containing a lot of smooth color gradients should use More Shading, which is a slower algorithm but handles smooth gradients better. Less Shading can be used for most other images, and will often produce smaller GIFs.
